Saturday, October 02, 2010 @ aw shucks. september has come and gone!

september has come and gone, and it was an amazing month. enjoyed all weekends, plus i managed to hit sales target!

first weekend: hopped onto a chartered coach with fellow SGP 2010 volunteers to Pasir Gudang for our mini shakedown. we had to familiarize ourselves with how everything was done in a live setting.

second weekend: long weekend cos of hari raya. had bbq with SIM/SR peeps at jasmine's estate.

third weekend: my birthday! had an inside tour of the Race Control room, and wandered around the pit lane. pity the million dollar cars hadn't arrived. the garages were empty! collected uniform and pass before heading for dinner with SIM peeps. stayed over at simin's place. then met up with yam on sunday for one last time before he flies off for studies.

final weekend: RACE WEEK!!!! the week i have been waiting for since i signed up as a volunteer. it was such a blast. great, great memories. hearing the cars, feeling the wind as they go by, smelling the rubber... really quite a magical feeling to see, feel and smell it upclose. it was quite scary when the race first started, because the whole comms system was totally jammed up with calls from other posts; everyone was trying to report cars running wide and contacting each other and whatnot. and i needed extra pairs of eyes to help look out for the cars and note their numbers if they cut any corners! not exactly easy when the cars you're supposed to spot are going at over 200km/h...

the post i was assigned to was an okay corner on the circuit. the one before mine, post 10, is the one with the infamous chicanes was really happening. when i wasn't on duty i would walk over to turn 10 to see the cars fly over the chicanes. the Observers there have a really tough job! unlike me. muhahahaha. On Lap 3, Liuzzi of Force India stopped his car at turn 10 and had to walk past my post before getting picked up by the Boundary Rider. and his car was lifted and parked just behind my post. how awesome is that!

Turns 7 and 8 were also really happening. the comms were filled with calls from them, and the Observers from those posts were very good at reporting incidents. i have much to learn from them. Massa's engine failed at Turn 8, and i heard from my teammate that he walked past our post. BUT WHY DIDN'T I SEE HIM EH!

but anyways, really lucky to get posted to Turn 11, because right behind us is the Padang, which was where the concerts were held! managed to get VIP passes for all 3 days to rock out with Missy Elliot, Daughtry, Adam Lambert and Mariah Carey. for free! wheeeee!!

tiring but super fun end to september. having the headset on needs total concentration and multi tasking. to spot cars, spot their errors, and have the all important radio awareness. it is great to be kept in the loop as well, because you really get to hear everything that is going on, and you try to inform your fellow teammates who are not on the headset what is going on at other parts of the circuit. learnt a lot more about F1 in one weekend. i make an excellent F1 car spotter now! hahahaha.

will definitely go for SGP 2011 if i have the chance to!!! anyone up for it? i'll let you know when registration is open early next year!

This is Post 11, one one, standing down. X)
